Our story

About Team StormBreaker

A community of developers building fast, clean custom Android kernels — in the open, since 2019.

StormBreaker started as a small group of enthusiasts chasing better performance and battery life on the phones we actually carried. Years later, we maintain kernels across dozens of devices, ship our own toolchain, and are pushing toward mainline Linux — all still community-run and fully open source.

2019

The storm begins

Team StormBreaker is formed to build custom kernels for popular budget Android devices.

2020 – 2021

Going wide

Support expands across Xiaomi, Poco, OnePlus and Realme devices, with a growing community of testers and maintainers.

2022

Our own toolchain & CI

StormBreaker Clang lands — an optimized compiler powering reproducible builds — alongside automated CI for faster, cleaner releases.

2023 – 2024

Unified sources

Flagship kernels like surya mature into unified, upstream-tracked sources trusted by thousands of users.

2025 – today

Toward mainline

We begin porting devices to the mainline Linux kernel, laying the groundwork for longer-lived, more maintainable device support.
